She was launched in 1975 in Pietarsaari, Finland.
She sailed the Mediterranean and crossed the Atlantic four times to cruise the Caribbean. In 1982 she began her first circumnavigation which lasted four years during which time she also underwent a major refit in Auckland, New Zealand.
Designed by Sparkman & Stephens, she is an outstanding yacht, the perfect blend of performance and luxury. Sleek and graceful, the Swan 65 complies with all IOR Mk III (International Offshore Rule) standards and emerged as the ideal answer to the growing demand for ever larger and more capable hulls. No fewer than 41 were built, from 1971 to 1989, and she would soon become the cruiser-racer by definition, the benchmark for many designs to come. For Sparkman & Stephens, she marked the culmination of a development path leading to the great racers of the 1970s, glorified by the extraordinary victory of Sayula II in the 1973/74 Whitbread Round the World Race and by the successful campaigns that followed, crowned by a 2nd- and 5th-place finish in 1977/78.
Upon her return home in 1987
… She cruised extensively the Eastern Mediterranean. In 1991 she once again set sail for its second circumnavigation which this time lasted nine years as there were many more places to visit again as well as new ones to discover.
In 2000 she was stripped out completely for a total refit with lasted 8 months. Thereafter she cruised the Eastern Med and sailed through the Suez Canal to the Indian Ocean once again where she cruised the next five years before returning home again.
Again across the Atlantic
In the following years she again crossed the Atlantic several times towards Brazil and the Caribbean cruising there at length. All these years she has been lovingly cared for by the crew and single owner so that she can still turn heads when entering port.
Nowadays
… She is based in the Western Med where she cruises every summer from May through November.

Tangaroa is an iconic sailing yacht built by the renowned shipyard Nautor Swan and designed by Sparkman & Stephens.
Twin of the Swan 65 Sayula, winner of the first round-the-world yacht race in 1973. Excellent conditions.
Tangaroa’s crew knows by heart each corner of Eastern Mediterranean, speaks fluently English, Turkish, Italian, Greek. Tangaroa is been sailing for over 10 years between Turkey and Greece.
Sailing
Tangaroa can accomodate 6 guests in 3 cabins. The master cabin is aft, it has one queen size bed plus one single bunk and private head/shower. The other two cabins have queen size beds which alternatively can be reconfigured as single bunks, both have heads/showers, one of which is shared with the crew. Accommodations for crew are forward (in blue shade).

Tangaroa’s exterior
Under sail in a proper breeze, the Swan 65 transforms into something unique, a pure extension of her crew. The moment a gust begins to press the hull over, with the toerail nearing the water, it is remarkable how instantly she seems to come alive, fully revealing her needs so they can be met and supported. Although the loads and forces are clearly substantial, she still feels slender and light, and keeping her trim in balance is almost instinctive. The water parts beneath her hull with rare natural ease, and the experience on board feels unlike almost any other, with the hull palpably alive beneath you and the immense loads driving her onward, as if always asking for more. And yet, despite her generous sail area and ample volumes, the whole remains consistently manageable, with gentle waterlines and an exceptionally well-balanced sail plan that make her docile at the helm, calm and composed despite all the energy that seems trapped within the hull, ready to burst through.
